5 Steps to Unstoppable

When you become unstoppable, you are making a statement that no matter what crosses your path, you will not stop until you have reached your destination.   Perhaps your destination is a specific fitness or weight loss goal or maybe you aspire to be a multi-millionaire, famous musician, best-selling author or an Olympic gymnast.  The list is endless.  Whatever it is that you strive to achieve, when you become unstoppable you have already mentally achieved it and now it’s just a matter of catching up to it in the physical.

 How do I become unstoppable?

Below I have listed 5 steps to unstoppable.  If you take them seriously, practice them diligently and consistently, you will become unstoppable.

  1. You must have a burning desire to reach your goal.  If your goal is not something you’re passionate about and you’re only pursuing it because of someone else’s expectations of you, or for any reason other than your own true desire, it’s unlikely that you will have the drive necessary to become unstoppable.  Now, I do not agree with pouring hot sauce on anyone’s cereal (unless you like it) and certainly no one has the ability to determine someone else’s chances for success, so allow me to clarify that statement.  If you do not like what you are doing, but you still have the desire to make it happen, you will make it happen.  The reasoning behind my statement that it is “unlikely” you will have the necessary drive is this:  It is very uncommon for desire to exist in the face of something we do not like.  Why?  Because we mentally resist that which we do not like and that resistance will attempt to thwart every single effort we make toward its achievement.   On the other hand, if you have a passion — a deep desire for the goal that you’ve set, you are already standing on the unstoppable track.
  1. You must be organized.  Yes, I’m sure there are successful, unorganized people out there in the world, but they most likely have someone else doing their organizing for them.  Record keeping, researching, planning, scheduling, revising, implementing, studying – all of these things require a detailed and organized system.  Without that, you will likely crawl toward your goal as opposed to charge toward it.  For basic organization ideas, read my article “Organize Your Life in 30 Minutes”.   This should give you a solid starting point if you don’t already have one.
  1. Focus, focus, focus.  I cannot say this enough.  Focus. With all of the distractions out there, I have found that one of the biggest challenges most people face, is the ability to remain focused.  We live in the age of texting, social networking and multi-media.  Chances are that at one time or another you have found yourself completely off track and stuck somewhere between Facebook and YouTube.   How can we train ourselves to have laser sharp focus?  Read my article “Develop Laser Focus and Get Stuff Done!
  1. Learn to accept that which is.  There are certain things we can change, and there are certain things we cannot change.  Accepting the things that we cannot change does not mean that we’ve surrendered to a specific outcome.  It means that we have accepted the fact that we are powerless to change it (i.e. a hurricane).  The only thing we have the true power to change is our own thoughts and actions.  If along the way to your goal you find yourself faced with circumstances that you cannot change, accept what is and make sure your actions are not reactive, but thought out and that which will continue to move you forward.  For instance, let’s say your goal is to write a book that you can enter into a novel contest and the deadline is in September.  Half way through the book you are injured and unable to use your writing / typing hand for several weeks, which will most certainly blow the deadline.  Can you change the fact that you have the injury?  Probably not.  Rather than resist what is and jump into victim mode, you must accept it in order to succeed and to be unstoppable.  Don’t throw in the towel – find a solution.
  1. Always do your best.  One of my favorite books is by Don Miguel Ruiz titled,  “The Four Agreements” .  This book had a profound effect on the transformation of my life and helped me to develop my unstoppable attitude.   One of the four agreements which Don Ruiz sets forth in his book is to always do your best.  If you always do your best, you will become unstoppable.  As mentioned in the book, your best will vary from day to day, depending on the circumstances.  You may be ill one day and therefore your best won’t be at the same level as it is on a day that you’re feeling great.  Things happen and you need to be willing and able to adjust your sails when the wind changes.  However, if you do your best each and every day, this one step alone will make you unstoppable.

We each have the potential to do and create amazing things.  Most people do not realize their full potential and as a result are living their lives in discontentment, regret and unhappiness when they don’t have to.  Take a look around you – really look.  How many people are smiling just to smile?  Better yet, if we see a person smiling for no apparent reason we think there’s something wrong with them.  What does that say about the overall mindset of humanity?  How many people try to speed up their lives between Monday and Friday, counting down the days until the weekend?  Remember TGIF?  Why not TGIM or TGIT?  You get the point.

Love what you do, get organized, focus, and do your absolute best – everyday — and you will be unstoppable!
