Love Messages: Through the Phone to the Heart

Written by

The best love messages are short and sweet. Nobody wants to go through a list of compliments.

There is a certain art to writing up a love message that is short enough to deliver in a quick email or a text message, but is still thoughtful and romantic. That art is definitely worth learning.

In my 10 years as a relationship therapist, I’ve found that nearly all of the couples I have counseled have seen a huge improvements in their relationships after they started sending each other love messages.

What do I Write?

The best love messages are short and punchy, but still romantic.  The only real requirements are that the message should be genuine and personal.

The easiest way to go about personalizing message is by using your partner’s name, or referencing a common experience or an inside joke between the two of you. It’s the method I use in my own relationship, and that’s lasted 25 years, so we must be doing something right.

To make the genuine message , I recommend trying to come up with something for yourself. Try an analogy comparing some positive trait you see in your special somebody to something beautiful in nature. “Eyes like the sea,” is a good one, or, “I’m attracted to you like a bee is to a flower,” is another. Try your own and you’ll be making phone poetry in no time at all! Even if it’s bad, it’s the thought and the effort that count. Don’t be afraid to experiment, either!

Sometimes a particularly corny message will get a laugh, and humor is (almost) never a bad thing.

Word to the wise: don’t bother with those short romantic messages you can find through Google. You know the ones I’m talking about. “Love is an attempt to transform a small part of a dreamland into reality! Just as people never forget to breath, that’s the same way I never forget loving u. I will always love. ” is way too cheesy to be taken seriously.

Unless you’re going to that, you should stay away from those and pickup lines. Sure, they can be funny, but will your other half really consider it a love message? It’s best to come up with your own; they may not be as well written as some, but the fact that they’re your own words meant for only one other person makes it special.

Get To It!

Writing romantic and compelling  love messages for your lady or man is simple. All you need to do is remind them that they’re important to you. Whether you do it with a simple, “Thinking of you,” or a short poem about something about them you like, or even words appreciating their good looks and talent, love messages are a great way to help keep your relationship healthy.

You, dear reader, are no doubt very attractive and creative, and have no problem coming up with your own love messages that rival the greatest authors. Your friends may not be that creative, and they’re often stuck with, “I love you,” or “I miss you,” which get boring after a while. For them, I recommend using They have some great resources on making the most out of your short love messages, from both appreciating your partner to heating things up at home.
